I’m a “”big business”” refugee, management consultant, and writer. I’ve spent most of my career making recommendations that were sometimes actually implemented, fixing things when I could, and generally trying to improve the world by wrestling much-needed change into organizations that seem purpose-built to resist such attempts.
For the second time in my career, I’m out on my own. This time, though, I’m not seeking to build a one-man consulting practice. This is about doing something far more interesting: building on ideas. They may be very small ideas at first, but my intent is to string enough good ones together with the scraps of experience and dollops of mistakes past that I can make a difference. Some of that will look like written pieces, some investigations into technologies, and still others consulting on a problem and/or with people I find interesting.
This is about integrating the adventure that is my personal life with the opportunities and hard work that is business and creating value. To my mind they both need to be fun. I also want to be clear on which one serves the other. Work is personal to me, and I’ll be writing about the impact that fact has on approach and execution.
Life is a grand adventure, and I’m enjoying every bit of it.
